We’re Basically Time Travelers

Our morning began at 5:45 a.m. before the alarm even went off. The packing happened last night, so our only needed was to be out of the house by 6:40 a.m. so we could catch the 6:59 a.m. train to the Vienna airport. We were looking at the ticket prices when Alison noticed our train was cancelled. Not a good start! Andrée and I did a pretty good job holding in our freak out and we were helped by the nicest guy at the ticket kiosk. He assured is the next train to the airport would be there a couple minutes after the original and walked is through the whole process of buying tickets. He was a lifesaver at a great moment of need.

Our new train arrived and it was time to get going for the day. Once we arrived at the airport, we were greeted by millions of people scrambling about like ants at a picnic. There were kiosks that allowed auto check in, but we went to an agent because we had bags to check. Everyone we encountered during our day was incredibly nice. While we were sad to leave such an incredible place, but anxious to get home.

Alison’s highlight this morning came when we were able to take a bus onto the tarmac and walk up steps to the plane. Oh happy day!

We arrived at gate A32 in Frankfurt and or connecting fight to Boston was boarding at gate Z69. Not even kidding! Thank goodness for people movers and athletic children because it was a hike! Right before we boarded, we realized that I was sitting alone, eight rows behind the rest of the family. The Lufthansa rep was super helpful at getting Andrée and I seated together and we even had an empty seat next to us for the seven hour flight to Boston.

Once again, Lufthansa came through with some fantastic meals on the way back to America. We had more wine with our meal and more Bailey’s after our meal. It’s was just so odd because we’ve only ever had crackers and peanuts on fights before this. Lufthansa topped off any drink you had. They even provided hot towels twice during our flight today. We left Frankfurt at 1 p.m. and arrived in Boston at 2:45 p.m. so we’re now time travelers.

We’re pulling into the driveway now. Andrée is excited to see the cats once again.

Such an amazing experience for our family. We’ll start saving for the next adventure soon enough.
